Tottenham fans react as Georges-Kevin N’Koudou edges closer to Monaco move

[ad_pod ]

According to French media outlet L’Equipe on Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is set to join Ligue 1 strugglers Monaco on loan for the rest of the season, and Spurs fans were quick to react to the potential exit of their player on Twitter.

The 23-year-old left the French top flight for a move to the north London outfit in the summer of 2016 from Marseille, but he has failed to make an impact with the club under Mauricio Pochettino.

As per Transfermarkt, the former France U21 international has only made 26 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, also spending the second half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Premier League rivals Burnley.

This term, the wide man has only got on the pitch on three occasions, again according to Transfermarkt, although he did make a significant impact in his four minutes on the pitch against Fulham at Craven Cottage earlier this month, setting up Harry Winks’ last-gasp winner in a 2-1 triumph.

Tottenham supporters have been quick to have their say on the reported impeding exit of N’Koudou via social media, and while one said the club has “no ambition”, another said “seriously what is going on”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Batshuayi pushing for Tottenham move

[ad_pod ]

Michy Batshuayi’s representatives are desperately attempting to secure the striker a loan move from Chelsea to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day, per ESPN.

The Blues forward has also been linked with West Ham United over the past two days and Football FanCast reported earlier on Thursday that the Hammers had shelved their pursuit of a loan deal due to Batshuayi’s extensive wage demands.

What’s the word?

ESPN now claim that Batshuayi is incredibly keen to move across London to join Spurs, who have been forced to play Fernando Llorente up front due to an injury sustained by Harry Kane.

The report also states that Everton hold an interest in the Belgium international and that Chelsea wanted to sell the striker to the Toffees for a £35million fee.

CheekySport’s Joel claims Spurs badly need to invest in January after not having “the balls” to beat Arsenal. Check out his uncensored opinion in the video below…

That demand was, per ESPN, too high for the Merseyside club who have refrained from entering the transfer market on the final day of the window.

Spurs and Chelsea have dealt with each other incredibly rarely, most recently failing to come to an agreement over the possibility of Luka Modric moving to Stamford Bridge in 2011.

A Sky Sports report at the time claimed Chelsea had a £27million bid rejected for the Croatia international and he instead moved to Real Madrid.

The most recent transfer between the two clubs was in 2009, when goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini moved from Stamford Bridge to White Hart Lane on a free transfer.

Desperate times call for desperate measures

Batshuayi is merely attempting to stop his career from stalling.

The Belgium international has struggled for games at Chelsea and has been loaned out in the past two seasons, first to Borussia Dortmund and then to Valencia.

A move to Spurs would give him the chance to play for a little while, at least while Kane is injured, and could see him resuscitate his own reputation in the eyes of English football fans.

Nevertheless, the chances of a deal being done appear incredibly remote and it looks as though Batshuayi will have to make do with sitting on the Stamford Bridge bench.

Leeds fans hate Bielsa’s preference for Forshaw over Phillips

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been giving their verdict on an important decision for Marcelo Bielsa, as reports claim the boss could bench Kalvin Phillips on Wednesday.

After becoming somewhat of a scapegoat under Paul Heckingbottom, Phillips has blossomed into one of Bielsa’s most trustworthy and versatile players.

“The Yorkshire Pirlo”, as he has been anointed by the Elland Road faithful, equalised in the 101st minute to earn his side a point at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

Thogden has ranked his top 5 sets of Championship away fans for Pl>ymaker FC. Did your club make the list? Find out in the video below…

Despite this, The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Bielsa could be forced to choose between Phillips and Adam Forshaw when Swansea visit Elland Road on Wednesday evening.

Phil Hay, who covers Leeds for the Post, has gone one further, stating that Bielsa said Forshaw would have started at Boro if he was fit.

Forshaw had taken over from Phillips during the youngster’s red card suspension, but fans haven’t been too impressed by the ex-Boro man, especially after his nightmare display against Norwich.

With Bielsa seemingly leaning towards Forshaw, it’s pretty clear who fans want to start, and you can see the best Twitter reactions down below…

Brendan Rodgers hopeful of injury boost after Celtic defeat

[ad_pod ]

Brendan Rodgers has hinted that two of his injured stars could be available for next week’s return tie against Valencia.

Injuries have hampered Celtic all season with all of their first choice defenders recently sidelined.

Kieran Tierney hasn’t played since December 13th but has now had more than a week involved in full training and a return to competitive action could be imminent – although Rodgers stopped short of directly naming the players who could be available for selection next week.

Speaking after the first leg defeat against Valencia, the BBC reported Rodgers as saying:

You have to have that belief [for the second leg]. We’ve got good players, we might have one or two back as well next week. We need to defend and concentrate well, especially in key moments of the game. If we can get the first goal, it could set us up for a really good second leg.

Olivier Ntcham hasn’t played this year but like Tierney seems to be getting close to a comeback.

Filip Benkovic, Tony Ralston and Tom Rogic won’t be back in action until March, while there is no word on when Leigh Griffiths will return after taking time out due to personal issues.

Changes are anticipated for this weekend’s clash against Kilmarnock, with Kris Ajer a likely candidate to come into the side for Jozo Simunovic. Timothy Weah is also strongly pushing for a starting place in Celtic’s ninth match since returning from their winter break in Dubai.

Leeds Injury News: Kemar Roofe provides update on knee problem

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United forward Kemar Roofe has revealed that he is hopeful of returning to action ‘for the final six or seven games’ of the 2018-19 Championship season.

What’s the latest?

Roofe said on Radio X, via the Yorkshire Evening Post:

“I’ll be back for the final six or seven games, maybe a bit sooner. I suffered damage to my lateral ligament and I’ll be out for six to eight weeks.”

The striker picked up a knee ligament injury during his team’s 2-1 win over Swansea City in the Championship on February 13.

Roofe completed the 90 minutes, but it soon became apparent that he had picked up an issue, which will see him miss a key period of the season.

Leeds have another 14 league games to play this term, starting with a home fixture against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Roofe has revealed that he is aiming to return ‘for the final six or seven games’, although he is remaining confident that it will be before that.

Which match could mark Roofe’s return?

If Roofe misses Leeds’ next seven Championship matches then he will be back for the trip to Birmingham City on April 6.

The Whites travel to Preston North End after visiting Birmingham, before facing Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic, Brentford, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town in their final five matches of the regular campaign.

The fact that Roofe will miss games against the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Bristol City and Sheffield United is far from ideal.

However, it had been feared at one point that the team’s leading scorer could miss the entirety of the campaign, which will not be the case if everything goes as planned.

Beni Baningime would be a great summer signing for Portsmouth

Portsmouth’s record in the league since the turn of the year has been quite frankly embarrassing and things need to be addressed as quickly as possible.

Having performed so well in the first half of the season, it’s amazing to see how downhill Portsmouth have gone but yet still remain in contention for promotion into the Championship.

As they currently sit third in League One, the automatic spaces are still viable but if that fails, their spot within the play-off places will still likely be in-tact.

It’s not as if crucial players were sold in January either. Portsmouth managed to retain all their stars, only for their performance levels to drop significantly since the turn of the year.

Whether they get promoted or not, Pompey need to make some drastic changes to their squad and the first step could be to lure Everton’s Beni Baningime to Fratton Park.

Baningime, (who is valued at £2.2 million on Transfermarkt) has recently joined Wigan on-loan as he bids to lend a hand to a team trying to save themselves from relegation.

Having made eight Premier League appearances, the 20-year-old may have had aspirations of kicking-on with the first team this season but Marco Silva wasn’t having any of it.

The midfielder hadn’t featured for the first-team, hence the move to Championship side Wigan to get some much-needed game-time.

As an academy product, hope still remains high that Beni Baningime can be a hit in the Premier League and a move to Portsmouth could see the central-midfielder realise his potential and perform to the best of his ability.

The two could form a good relationship and Portsmouth would certainly benefit from adding another quality midfielder to their ranks.

Do you agree… Let us know!

West Ham fans want Johnson to keep his place after Cresswell setback

[ad_pod ]

Loads of West Ham fans have been reflecting on the performance of Ben Johnson against Manchester City, and they want the youngster to keep his place.

Aaron Cresswell suffered a broken toe in the win against Fulham, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed on Wednesday night.

The boss thus opted to hand a debut to Johnson at the Etihad stadium on Wednesday night – a baptism of fire if there ever was one.

The 19 year-old had the difficult task of stopping Riyad Mahrez, and although the Algerian international didn’t get on the scoresheet, he certainly troubled the youngster on plenty of occasions.

However, the Hammers won’t play another team with the quality on the wings that Man City possess, and fans want Johnson to keep his place with the Hammers unlikely to either challenge for Europe or face a relegation scrap.

Arthur Masuaku is of course the other option for Pellegrini while Cresswell is out, but the Frenchman has infuriated fans this season with his lack of defensive awareness.

Leeds fans celebrate Jack Clarke’s return to full training

[ad_pod ]

Jack Clarke has returned to full first-team training with Leeds United, as reported by Sky Sports.

The 18-year-old winger has been out of action since being taken ill whilst on the bench in February’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

Prior to his absence, Clarke had been making waves in the Whites’ first team. The young attacker made his senior debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side against Brentford in October and hasn’t looked back since. He made his first start for the club in their 2-0 over Derby County at Elland Road, and shone in that fixture.

Who has been the Championship’s best player this season? The Pl>ymaker FC squad discuss in the video below…

To date, the academy graduate has made 17 appearances for the club in all competitions, registering two goals and two assists, as per Transfermarkt’s stats.

His return will be a massive boost for Bielsa who will require all hands on deck at Leeds as they continue to chase the Championship title.

Leeds fans are certainly glad to have the forward on his way back, with many taking to Twitter to congratulate Clarke on his return to the fold…

Pundit View: Don Goodman suggests Wolves could have advantage over Man United

[ad_pod ]

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker turned pundit Don Goodman has been having his say, via The Express & Star, ahead of the club’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United at Molineux on Saturday, and suggested that one thing could work in their favour.

What’s the word, then?

Sitting comfortably in the Premier League, the west Midlands outfit have a great opportunity to put their all into reaching the semi-finals of the prestigious competition when they welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to the Black Country at the weekend.

The Norwegian’s 100% record on the road with the Red Devils came to an end following the 2-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, and he will be hoping his team can bounce back against Nuno Santo’s hosts.

The Portuguese manager has brilliantly led his side to seventh in the top flight standings even though they were promoted less than 12 months ago, and he may see this as a real opportunity to win a trophy – should they knock United out they should only really fear Manchester City, presuming they also get through to the last four.

What’s Goodman said?

Well, part of the Solskjaer revolution has seen the Old Trafford-based outfit reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and Goodman has said, in quotes reported by The Express & Star, that it is something that could be an advantage for Wolves.

The 52-year-old said: “I think Man United getting through in the Champions League is the best thing Wolves could have asked for.

“They’re still fighting on other fronts and this game really is a 50/50 split for me.”

Is he right?

He could well be.

Wolves are playing well and if United are slightly distracted by the Champions League or the race for a top-four finish domestically, they can be overturned.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this clash turns out on Saturday night.

Palace Injury News: Hodgson delivers Hennessey update fans didn’t want to hear

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace visit Watford this weekend for their FA Cup quarter-final clash – the Eagles will be out for revenge having lost their last two against the Hornets and having had their wings clipped at the weekend by bitter rivals Brighton.

For the cup games, it’s crucial that managers have a healthy selection of players to rotate between and so the positive injury update delivered by Roy Hodgson on Thursday should be welcome news – it might not be quite what Palace fans were hoping for, though.

What did he say?

A report taken from Crystal Palace’s official club website reads:

“Having been without Hennessey for Palace’s recent fixture with Brighton, Hodgson stated that the Welsh shot-stopper is ‘fit again after his slight problem.'”

Surely the news that any player is in contention for such a physically demanding game is good, although this surely won’t be the case for the Selhurst Park faithful considering who the update pertains to.

Guaita gets the gloves, right?

The 31-year-old Wales international finally has real competition for his starting berth this season with Vicente Guaita having arrived on a free from Getafe, and the Spaniard has become the Eagles’ number 1 after a slow introduction to the starting XI.

Hennessey has been between the sticks for each cup clash this campaign but, now that the Eagles are in the last eight, Hodgson surely has to give his best ‘keeper the nod?

Now that Welshman has been ruled fit, though, it really is anyone’s guess as to who starts in net but, if Hodgson wants to make a statement of intent in the competition, he should surely give Guaita the gloves.

Watch the best fails from the world of indoor football in the video below…

The former England boss has said that he will not be resting anybody and that the team will be strong, although whether this only applies to the outfield players is unclear. Will Hodgson continue to put faith in Hennessey or will he make the smart move by opting for the far less error-prone alternative?
