As Leeds United continue their push for Championship promotion, one Champions League club have reportedly already made contact in pursuit of dealing Daniel Farke a frustrating blow once the summer rolls around.

According to Football Transfers in the Netherlands, Feyenoord have now made contact over signing Pascal Struijk this summer and are committed to signing the Leeds defender ahead of interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the coming months.

A key man under Farke, Struijk is a player who’s ready to step back in the Premier League. Leeds will just be hoping that it’s with them rather than Spurs. The interest of Feyenoord could also spoil that plan altogether, with the Dutch club likely to be in a position to offer some form of European football next season.

Given that their own defensive star, David Hancko, has received reported interest of his own from the likes of Liverpool, Feyenoord could yet be forced to go all out in pursuit of a replacement this summer.

Leeds must keep hold of "crucial" Struijk

If Leeds needed any further motivation to earn their way back into the Premier League this season, then recent interest in Struijk’s signature should be more than enough encouragement. A place back in England’s top flight could quickly fend off any interest from Spurs and end Feyenoord’s attempts to welcome the Dutchman back to his home country this summer.

Farke has been aware of the defender’s importance for some time, telling reporters in the early stages of last season: “He adapted well to my demands and he’s played a crucial part. We don’t have to talk about his skills with the ball. I’m very pleased with his development.”

If there were still some waiting to be convinced about his quality too, then Struijk’s recent last-gasp winner against promotion rivals Sunderland should have put an end to that doubt once and for all.

With Feyenoord chasing his signature, promotion is more important than ever if Leeds want to keep hold of Struijk this summer.

Newcastle given chance to sign "tricky" Milan winger

According to Calciomercato, Milan have offered Newcastle the opportunity to sign winger Samuel Chukwueze, as they look to drum up funds for new signings. He is believed to be happy where he is, though, which could make it a tricky deal to agree for the £82,000-a-week man.

Not only that, but the Magpies are not alone in being given the chance to sign the Nigeria international, with fellow Premier League trio Everton, Crystal Palace and Tottenham also in the same boat.

With Miguel Almiron completing a move back to Atalanta United this week, Newcastle are in need of a new right winger, both in terms of squad depth to help Jacob Murphy, and to bring in an upgrade on both he and the departed Paraguayan.

Chukwueze could be ideal in that respect, proving to be a hugely exciting winger capable of creating and scoring with his left foot, with football talent scout Jacek Kulig comparing him to Robben and calling him “tricky”.

At 25 years of age, Newcastle wouldn’t be taking a risk on a player whose peak isn’t far away either, and they could even get the best years of his career, with plenty of time to still mature.

Warner’s release from the squad means that Finch will have a different opening partner for his final ODI. The pair will finish as Australia’s fourth-most prolific, with 3788 runs including 12 century stands.Marnus Labuschagne could be an option to go in alongside Finch. Josh Inglis, who replaced Marsh, is the spare batter in the squad, while Cameron Green may be available again after missing the second match following the cramps he suffered in the first game.Stoinis is the second injury Australia have suffered to one of their allrounders over the last couple of weeks, with Mitchell Marsh heading home after the first match against Zimbabwe to nurse a minor ankle injury, although there were indications that he would be available for the India tour.In the second ODI on Thursday, Stoinis removed James Neesham but was then off the field when the victory was secured.While much of the focus has been on Finch’s form struggles, Stoinis’ returns have also been underwhelming. Graham Potter has only been in charge of West Ham for two games now, but even in such a short space of time, you are beginning to see some patterns emerge in how the Englishman plans to get the best out of his group of players.

The Hammers lost Potter’s first game in charge despite going 1-0 up against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, before beating Fulham four days later in the Premier League, with a 3-2 victory in Potter’s first game at the London Stadium, with goals from Carlos Soler, Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta.

Potter has already shown his willingness to tweak positions game by game, in order to get the best from his group and give them the best possible chance against each differing opposition.

This saw Soucek and Paqueta playing as almost a two upfront against Fulham, looking to benefit from second balls for the likes of Mohammed Kudus to attack.

Niclas Füllkrug went down injured in Potter’s first game, but he was offering a similar dynamic with Paqueta and Kudus, which shows another striker addition who brings similar attributes could be heavily important to the way West Ham want to play, at least in the short-term as they try to climb the table.

West Ham want to strengthen their attack

According to reports from Irons insider ExWhuEmployee, West Ham are interested in Fulham striker, Rodrigo Muniz, who has been added to their list of potential striker targets this month. A loan plus obligation to buy is apparently being discussed. As per the Guardian, that purchase clause would sit at around £30m.

The 23-year-old joined Fulham back in 2021 from Brazilian Serie A side, Flamengo, but only broke through in the 2023/24 season for the club. The Brazilian scored ten goals in his breakthrough season, making 33 appearances in all competitions.

Muniz has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Fulham this term, scoring four goals, providing one assist and totalling 733 minutes played.

How Muniz compares to West Ham's strikers

West Ham’s current striker options are Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Fullkrug. Of those three, two of them are injured – Antonio and Fullkrug – which makes Ings the only fit centre forward.

That’s problematic because not only does he not find the net regularly but he doesn’t offer that same set of skills as a target man or focal point for the side.

When comparing the three strikers, you can see Muniz is much more like Fullkrug, providing box presence and aerial prowess. That’s in comparison to Antonio who offers more on the side of progression and carrying ability, alongside overall creation for the team with regard to shot-creating actions.

Labelled as a “handful” in the past by Premier League icon Alan Shearer, he went on to say that Muniz is “horrible” to play against, which is exactly what you need from a centre-forward. In contrast, it’s safe to say that Fullkrug has been pretty easy to handle for top-flight defences in 2024/25.

By bringing Muniz to the club, Potter would have another striker option who is far more suited to his current idea of trying to maximise his best players such as Kudus, Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen when he returns, having a focal point/target man type for them to play off.

Celtic suffered their first defeat of the Scottish Premiership season and their first defeat of 2025 with a 3-0 loss to Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday.

The team’s only other loss in all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign came at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, a 7-1 defeat, in the Champions League in Germany.

It was a game that the Hoops never really got going in and they never seemed to recover from the early setback they faced when Ianis Hagi planted a shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards in the seventh minute.

There was never a sustained spell of pressure from the away side to get an equaliser, with Celtic having one shot on target in the 90 minutes, before they allowed Robin Propper to score, unmarked, in the 66th minute after a scramble from a corner.

The match was all but over at that point and Danilo wrapped up the win for the hosts by sliding the ball past Kasper Schmeichel for the third in the 81st minute.

It was a disastrous performance from the Hoops and one that included a number of players not living up to their usual high standards for the Hoops.

Celtic's worst performers against Rangers

Firstly, there is no getting away from the error that Liam Scales made in the build-up to the opening goal from Hagi, with a stray pass into midfield that was jumped on by the Gers – directly leading to the opening goal.

The Ireland international was selected on the left side of the defence, next to Cameron Carter-Vickers, ahead of Auston Trusty and let his manager down with that mistake.

Scales was far from the only Celtic player to make an error on the pitch at Ibrox, though, as central midfielder Reo Hatate also endured a frustrating afternoon on the other side of Glasgow.

The Japan international ended the match with zero chances created, zero ground duels won, zero tackles, zero interceptions, and two errors that directly led to shots for the opposition.

Right-back Alistair Johnston had similar issues to Hatate in the game, winning two of his nine duels and failing to make a single tackle or interception, whilst also giving the ball away a whopping 20 times.

Another player who struggled at Ibrox was centre-forward Kyogo Furuhashi, as the Japan international failed to get involved in the match for most of his performance.

As you can see in the table above, the Celtic forward carried little threat, with his only shot in the match ultimately ruled out for offside, and did not compete with Dujon Sterling or Robin Propper in physical battles to hold the ball up.

Another player the Scottish giants must ditch from the starting XI for the clash with St Mirren at Parkhead on Sunday is left winger Daizen Maeda.

Daizen Maeda's performance against Rangers

The Japan international started on the left flank for the Hoops and failed to make the desired impact in or out of possession, despite playing against a player out of position.

With James Tavernier injured and Sterling required at centre-back for Rangers, left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, who started for just the fourth time this season in the Premiership, started on the right side of the backline for Philippe Clement.

This meant that Maeda was directly up against a left-footed right-back who was not fully match sharp, yet failed to get the better of him physically or technically.

The Japanese lightweight lost 83% (5/6) of his duels and 100% (5/5) of his ground duels in the match, which shows that Yilmaz dominated him from a physical perspective.

He also lost possession of the ball 12 times in total, without scoring or assisting a goal, as the forward was wasteful with his use of the ball on the flank.

As you can see in the table above, Maeda offered virtually nothing at the top end of the pitch for Celtic, with zero shots on target and zero chances created.

His performance was summed up by him missing a good chance to get a headed shot on goal at the back post, heading the ball down onto his own foot and out of play. During Sky Sports’ live coverage of the match, pundit Chris Sutton described his display as “very clumsy” after that incident.

Why Daizen Maeda should be dropped

Brendan Rodgers must, now, ruthlessly ditch the Japanese winger from the starting XI after his disappointing performance against Rangers, that lacked physicality and technical quality.

A lack of quality in the final third has been a consistent issue for Maeda throughout the Premiership season, although he had scored in successive matches in the two games before the trip to Ibrox.

The 27-year-old has only produced four goals and three assists in 18 appearances in the Scottish top-flight, less than one goal contribution every other game on average.

Maeda has failed to provide regular contributions as a scorer or a creator of goals down the left flank, despite starting 15 of those games, and has struggled in other areas of the game.

As you can see in the table above, the Celtic attacker has been incredibly poor at taking on opposition full-backs this season, completing just 28% of his attempted dribbles.

His lack of quality in that respect was on show at Ibrox on Thursday as the rarely-seen Yilmaz, playing out of position, had an easy afternoon against the Hoops wide man, who offered very little at the top end of the pitch.
