West Ham academy grad is now worth even less than Ings after mega £18m sale

This summer has been a huge change for West Ham United, with numerous new signings at London Stadium alongside a new manager taking the reins.

Julen Lopetegui came into the club to take over from David Moyes, splashing over £100m on new transfers to try and push for another European finish in the Premier League this season.

However, the Spaniard has endured a tricky start to life as Hammers boss, winning just one of the opening three league outings with the club currently occupying 13th place.

As well as incomings, Lopetegui has also made some key departures, freeing up potential transfer funds whilst clearing some of the players who unfortunately are no longer at the level required in England’s top flight.

Despite the recent sales, there’s one player who’s often looked past his best. That man remains at the London Stadium a couple of years after his big-money transfer to East London.

Danny Ings’ time at West Ham United

After moving from Aston Villa in a £15m move during January 2023, striker Danny Ings arrived with huge expectations of bringing much-needed goals to the West Ham side.

West Ham striker Danny Ings.

However, his switch to the capital has been anything but that, failing to make a huge impact despite his big-money move and hefty wages. The 32-year-old, who earns £125k-per-week as per Capology, has made 53 appearances for the Hammers, scoring on just four occasions.

Ings has often been utilised as a bit part player during his time at the club, but after the arrival of Niclas Füllkrug, he could find himself as the third choice slotting in behind the German and Michail Antonio.

He’s only managed five minutes of first-team action so far this campaign, with his market value dropping as a result.

That said, he still boasts a higher price tag than former wonderkid Grady Diangana, a fact that illuminates the remarkable fall in stock of their academy graduate.

Grady Diangana’s market value in 2024

Winger Diangana had huge potential to be a success at West Ham after breaking through the academy and enjoying a successful spell out on loan at West Brom.

He registered 14 goal contributions during the 2019/20 campaign, prompting vast interest from the Baggies on a permanent basis – to the displeasure of many at the club.

Club legend Mark Noble expressed his disappointment with the transfer on social media, but Diangana swapped London for the West Midlands in a deal that reached £18m including add-ons.

However, his move to Albion has been anything but successful, only registering 14 goals over the last five seasons – with his market value taking a hit as a result of his poor form.

The 26-year-old is now only valued at just £3.3m as per Transfermarkt, with the aforementioned Ings still valued at £6.7m despite his own lack of goals for the Hammers.

Whilst at the time it may have been seen as a terrible decision to sell the forward, his recent lack of form in the Championship proves it was the right call to cash in on Diangana whilst his stock was at its highest.

As for Ings, his lack of goals will be a concern for the club – especially considering his hefty wages – with the club desperately needing to address his situation at the next available opportunity.

It’s safe to say that both players’ careers haven’t gone in the direction they were wishing for.

Brydon Carse cracks maiden fifty then claims Jonny Bairstow scalp in Durham win

Yorkshire fall short by 20 runs despite having home side in trouble at 95 for 6

ECB Reporters' Network11-Jun-2021Brydon Carse inspired Durham to a 20-run victory over Yorkshire Vikings in their first game of the Vitality Blast campaign at Emirates Riverside.Carse took centre stage with the bat after it appeared the hosts had wasted an excellent platform. The 25-year-old scored his maiden T20 fifty to elevate Durham to a match-winning total of 181, despite career-best figures of 4 for 44 from Jordan Thompson.Jonny Bairstow threatened the home side, but Carse made the decisive impact to dismiss the England man for 67. A late surge from Harry Brook proved in vain as Durham held their composure to get off the mark in the competition at the first attempt. After losing the toss, Durham made a rapid start as Graham Clark dispatched David Willey for four-straight boundaries, including a massive six over square leg. The introduction of Lockie Ferguson brought about the breakthrough for the Vikings as the opener picked out Willey at mid-on for 34.The home side enjoyed a solid start after the Powerplay, reaching 54 for 2. However, Thompson ensured that Durham could not maintain the pace of their innings, deploying slower deliveries to remove Ben Raine and David Bedingham.Durham’s innings was in danger of petering out when Ferguson had skipper Cameron Bancroft caught behind for a scratchy 15. Impetus arrived in the form of Carse, who excelled with a variety of blistering strokes. He notched his maiden T20 fifty from 30 balls, striking Thompson over the rope, but the bowler had his revenge with his final delivery to claim his best figures in the format. The Vikings lost Adam Lyth in the second over of their reply, lifting his drive off Matty Potts into the grasp of Bancroft. Bairstow and Dawid Malan kept Yorkshire in line with the run rate during the Powerplay, but the latter departed two balls after restrictions were eased, losing his off stump to Liam Trevaskis.Tom Kohler-Cadmore threatened to spark the Yorkshire innings to life, smashing the ball onto the roof of the health club on the edge of the ground. His next attempt failed as Raine prised him out with his first delivery for 16. Bairstow remained composed, notching his first fifty of the campaign from 40 balls but Carse delivered for Durham to halt the Yorkshire momentum by taking his middle stump out of the ground.Brook offered brief hope for the visitors with a brisk 41, but his desperate late attempt to slog Potts resulted in being caught on the rope. Durham held their nerve at the death to close out their first win of the campaign.

Rabada-Nortje combine could be the difference in slugfest of equals

Both teams are strong at the top but have a tendency of losing steam towards the end of their innings

Nortje can now resume his partnership with Kagiso Rabada to provide the pace blast they had last year•BCCI

Big pictureIn the blue corner, we have Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and others. In the red, there are KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and friends. The Delhi Capitals’ contest against the Punjab Kings is of the kind where, were it a boxing match, there would be the promise of some heavy-duty action in the first few rounds, with the possibility of a peter-out later on.That’s because of how the two teams are made up. Both rely on their top orders to do the bulk of the work, and if the top order falters, then the batting goes from sizzle to fizzle pretty quickly. There are other points in common too: they are stocked with lots of pace options, and each has won one game and lost one. However, while the Capitals might look back at their defeat against the Rajasthan Royals and think they could have won two in two, the Kings would need to pick themselves up after a rather comprehensive wipe-out against the Chennai Super Kings.Related

This will be the last outing at the Wankhede Stadium for the two teams in IPL 2021. The tracks there have not lived up to the reputation of being batting beauties in the last couple of matches, but given a flat track, there are bound to be fireworks. What both teams might look for, though, is a bit more batting depth. Each faced a top-order collapse in their last games, which would have made them conscious of how steeply the batting falls off after the top few. While Pant being around allowed the Capitals to at least hit near 150, none of the top five stayed much beyond the powerplay for the Kings, and it needed Shahrukh Khan at No. 6 to drag them just over 100. They both have the personnel in their squads to lengthen the batting, though that would inevitably come at the expense of the bowling, and it’s a balancing call they have to take. The Capitals could drop one of their overseas bowlers to bring back Shimron Hetmyer, while the Kings could do the same to bring in a Fabian Allen or a Moises Henriques. In the newsAnrich Nortje, bowler of the fastest ball in IPL history, is back in the Capitals’ team bubble after a Covid-19 scare. Nortje had landed in Mumbai on April 6, and had to spend extended time in quarantine after a positive test, but has subsequently tested negative thrice. The Capitals certainly missed Nortje in their loss against the Royals, and he can now resume his partnership with Kagiso Rabada to provide the pace blast they had last year. Nortje’s addition would almost certainly mean a benching for Tom Curran, who hasn’t been able to control the flow of runs effectively. The Capitals have also roped in Shams Mulani as a temporary replacement for Axar Patel, a like-for-like left-arm-spinning allrounder, and brought in Aniruddha Joshi for the injured Shreyas Iyer. It remains to be seen whether either of them can be fitted into the XIs.Nicholas Pooran has had two ducks, but he remains amongst the best hitters in the game•BCCI

Likely XIsDelhi Capitals: 1 Prithvi Shaw, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Ajinkya Rahane, 4 Rishabh Pant (capt, wk), 5 Marcus Stoinis, 6 Shimron Hetmyer, 7 Lalit Yadav, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Kagiso Rabada, 10 Avesh Khan, 11 Anrich NortjePunjab Kings: 1 Mayank Agarwal, 2 KL Rahul (capt, wk), 3 Chris Gayle, 4 Deepak Hooda, 5 Nicholas Pooran, 6 Shahrukh Khan, 7 Jhye Richardson, 8 M Ashwin, 9 Mohammed Shami, 10 Riley Meredith, 11 Arshdeep SinghStrategy punt The Capitals didn’t use up all of R Ashwin’s four overs in their defeat against the Royals, something that coach Ricky Ponting admitted might have been a mistake. They would not want to repeat that in this game, with Ashwin likely to be particularly valuable in the middle, bowling to Gayle and Pooran, both left-handers. Both big-hitting West Indians have not quite managed to get on top of Ashwin. While the offspinner has a long history of success against Gayle and has even kept him to less than a run-a-ball, he bowled superbly to Pooran in IPL 2020’s opening game too, getting him for a duck. With Pooran having fallen twice to short balls in IPL 2021 and yet to score a run, expect Delhi to unleash their considerable pace artillery at him too. For the Kings then, a good start is essential. The Capitals might want to have both Ashwin and a pacer bowling to Pooran, but if Rahul, Agarwal and Gayle can get the team off to a good start, then those plans will come unstuck. And while Pooran may have started off with two ducks, he remains amongst the best hitters of the ball, who can cause mayhem when coming in with a set platform.Stats that matter In five IPL games at the Wankhede, Pant has averaged 63.66 at a strike rate of 192.92. Even including games other than the IPL, Pant has enjoyed himself at this venue, averaging 41.83 at a strike rate of 180.57 in nine matches. Since January 2018, only one batter has scored more than 2000 runs in the IPL: Rahul. He’s done it at an average of 54.54, while the strike rate has veered sharply between extremes in past seasons. It remains to be seen which version of Rahul turns up. While the aggressive version worked wonders in the win against the Royals, the collapse against the Super Kings might make him change tack.

He wants to join: Southampton looking at “extraordinary” Adams upgrade

Southampton look to be very much on the hunt for more attacking options this transfer window, after it was finally confirmed that Che Adams had found a new club away from the South Coast outfit.

Losing the Scotland international's firepower up top ahead of their maiden voyage up to the Premier League will sting, especially when you consider he's moved onto Serie A side Torino on a free transfer too, but Russell Martin's men will now be determined to adequately replace the ex-Birmingham City forward's goal threat now.

hugo-ekitike-che-adams-transfer-news-premier-league

They would well replace him with one prolific goal machine who will be well known to fans of English football and is need of finding his mojo again with a new permanent club, after shining briefly in the Premier League last campaign.

Southampton leading race for ex-Blackburn Rovers ace

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Southampton are leading the race to sign former Blackburn Rovers ace Ben Brereton Diaz this summer transfer window.

Brereton Diaz shone out on loan with Sheffield United last season, with six goals managed from 14 top-flight games for the basement club, and so could want to end his Villarreal nightmare once and for all this off-season.

Ben Brereton Diaz in action for Villarreal.

Really struggling to make an impact for the La Liga giants after walking out of Blackburn last year, the current Villarreal number nine is said to be keen on a move to the newly promoted Saints, who have long admired Brereton Diaz's prowess in front of goal.

Now feels like the perfect opportunity for this move to get over the line, therefore, with the 25-year-old a deadly finisher when on his A-Game, and a striker that could make Martin and Co instantly forget about Adams departing for Italy.

What Brereton-Diaz can offer Southampton

Away from offering the Blades some much-needed positivity in attack last season at the foot of the Premier League, Brereton-Diaz already had a reputation for being a deadly finisher on English soil, mainly when he was on the books at Blackburn.

The adopted Chile international would bag 47 goals from 177 games at Ewood Park, leading to his ex-Blackburn boss in Tony Mowbray labelling him as an "extraordinary" talent, with 16 goals managed in all competitions from 50 games during his final swansong season in Lancashire.

As shown in the table above, in the pair's most recent, respective outings in the top flight, it is Brereton Diaz who enjoyed the more fruitful time of it in front of goal, thus indicating just what a potential upgrade he could be amid Southampton's return to the promisied land.

Brereton Diaz's game could also be elevated next to Adam Armstrong – who he lined up with at the Riversiders once upon a time too – with the experienced sharp-shooter scoring a sublime 21 second tier strikes during the regular campaign for Martin's Saints on the way to promotion being dramatically sealed.

Likewise, Armstrong could learn from his new partner up top, with the 27-year-old a feared prospect for defenders in the EFL, but not really for Premier League defences, having bagged only four top-flight strikes across his career to date.

Brereton Diaz eclipsed that total just last season at Bramall Lane, with Adams also previously being a goal-shy presence in the elite division, with only 25 strikes managed from 125 games.

Therefore, if given time over a full season in the bright lights of the top league, the Chilean striker could become a new hero for the Saints, and fill the gap left behind by the Scotsman perfectly.

Andy Flower: Mohammad Rizwan 'has the qualities to make a very successful leader'

Multan Sultans coach backs the decision to change captains just days out from the start of the 2021 PSL season

Umar Farooq17-Feb-20213:12

Flower: ‘Rizwan has the qualities to make him a very successful leader’

The decision to elevate wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan as captain of Multan Sultans was an acknowledgement of his inherent leadership qualities rather than his recent red-hot form, according to head coach Andy Flower. Flower said his franchise hoped to play a part in Rizwan’s development for the good of Pakistan cricket.Multan’s decision to replace Shan Masood, who led them to the playoffs last year, days before the sixth season was surprising – Masood was integral in trialling a system of signals between coaching staff and the captain on-field, a kind of real-time strategising as play went on. That was a system England later used in their T20Is against South Africa – Nathan Leamon, England’s white-ball analyst was also with Multan. But at least partly it would appear the change is a result of a shake-up within the franchise. ESPNcricinfo understands that Alamgir Tareen, a prominent businessman, has now taken complete ownership of the franchise, in a move that has seen Ali Tareen, his nephew and hitherto the face of the franchise, moved out.Multan insisted, however, that the decision was a cricketing one.”Rizwan has shown that he’s got leadership qualities when he captained Pakistan while Babar (Azam) was injured,” Flower said. “He’s also got a really good record in domestic cricket, recently won the T20 tournament for his state (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) so he’s got the qualities to make a very successful leader. I don’t know him well, but obviously been doing a bit of research on him and he had some of the leadership qualities that we’re looking for for a new way forward. In saying that, I would say that I really enjoyed working with Shan Masood last year. I thought he captained very well, played very well, and was very much a part of us doing well last season.Mohammad Rizwan made his maiden Test and T20I hundred this month•AP Photo”However, nothing stays permanent in life and this is a change that we’ve made. Shan is still a very important part of the Multan group. In whatever way, as a batsman or an internal leader, he’ll still play a very big part in this upcoming tournament. But for the moment, Rizwan is our captain and we’re very much looking forward to him leading the side and us getting to the play-offs again. It’s not a short-term decision. Rizwan has shown leadership qualities over a longer period of time and It’s not just his form with the bat.”The move is further confirmation of Rizwan’s swiftly rising status within Pakistan cricket, having for so long been back-up to Sarfraz Ahmed. He has now firmly established his place across formats with PCB naming him vice-captain in Test cricket. He announced himself in England last year to win a Player-of-the-Series award and his stocks rose further in New Zealand where even though the team lost both Tests under his leadership, he continued scoring runs in crisis situations.Though he’s scored first-class runs for a while now in much the same vein, the surprise has been his T20 form. In the National T20 Cup before the New Zealand series, he scored four fifties, including an unbeaten 99 against Central Punjab, which helped him finish as the highest run-scorer. His tournament tally of 389 runs at 38.90 – and a strike rate of 127.96 – led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the 2020 title.”We would like to be a part of his development for his own good, and also for the good of Pakistan cricket,” Flower said. “All of the franchises, I think, need to keep in mind the development of Pakistan cricket and its long-term good and Rizwan is case in point. In our particular example, Shan is a really good young man and a strong young man. He’s had various speed bumps and hurdles to overcome in his young career and this will be another one for him. It’s not easy for him and we can empathise with him, but we all grow stronger from some of these hurdles that we have to overcome. And in this case, I am absolutely certain that that is the way Shan will react.”Although he is yet to play T20Is for Pakistan, Masood rose to prominence with good run in domestic cricket last year scoring 569 at 27.09 at a strike rate of 125.60. However, he isn’t an explosive opening batsman and with Rizwan likely to play in the top order Masood’s chances of keeping his place seem bleak with James Vince, Chris Lynn, Sohaib Maqsood, and Rilee Rossouw also around.”We’ve got a good number of options for the top order, but there are also people in that line-up that have batted at Nos. 3 and 4 quite regularly,” Flower said. “So we’re not concerned about the order. I think it’s a strength for us. That we have players that are adaptable and that we can adapt either to the conditions that are at play or the opposition and some of their tactics. So we think that the number of options that we have at the top of the order and in the middle order is a strength. If you’re asking about what particular order we’re going to use, I’m not going to tell you right now, we’ve got a couple of practice matches now, but obviously sharing that sort of information for our opposition, we wouldn’t do that.”

Rangers could sign £6.5m star as an "instant upgrade" on Davies

Glasgow Rangers head into pre-season boosted by plenty of new arrivals as it appears Philippe Clement is changing the philosophy of the club’s approach to the transfer market.

Long gone are the days of signing ageing players on a high wage. Rather, young talent is being sought in order to establish a player trading model which will make the Gers millions in the next few years.

With new signings including Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Connor Barron and Clinton Nsiala, who are all aged 22 or under, this new strategy is certainly coming to the fore.

Is it a gamble? Of course, but this way allows Clement to develop players who can turn from a promising gem into an experienced professional over the next few seasons.

With the start of the season still over a month away, the Belgian is showing no signs of slowing down, especially as he aims to bolster his defence this summer.

Rangers eyeing move for Serie A defender

Reports in Austria (via the Scotsman) earlier this month suggested that the Light Blues are showing some interest in defender Flavius Daniliuc, who currently plays for Italian side Salernitana.

The Austrian defender did spend the second half of last season on loan at Red Bull Salzburg in his homeland, but it looks as though he could be on the move this summer, especially as his loan side turned down their option to sign him on a permanent basis.

Celtic are also keen admirers of the 23-year-old centre-back, which could see the two Old Firm sides go head-to-head in a transfer battle.

Daniliuc is currently on international duty with Austria at Euro 2024, where he has yet to make an appearance against either the Netherlands or Poland at the competition.

With a market value of €7.7m (£6.5m) as per Football Transfers, Clement may potentially try and secure his services on a loan deal as opposed to spending that amount on one player, especially considering his budget will be tight.

This could change if he is able to shift a few players on, with Ben Davies one who could be cashed in on in the coming weeks.

Why Rangers need to move on Ben Davies

The Englishman signed for the Ibrox side back in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of £4m, but it is safe to say that he hasn’t quite lived up to this.

During his maiden campaign, the former Liverpool centre-back made 38 appearances across all competitions, yet the Light Blues ended the season trophyless for the first time since 2020.

Ben Davies

Throughout the 2023/24 term, Davies made only 17 appearances, which included just seven starts in the Premiership, as Clement preferred Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and John Souttar as his options at the heart of the defence.

Davies ranked sixth for possession lost last season (12.1) when compared to his teammates in the top flight, along with ranking 11th for tackles (1.1) and seventh for interceptions (0.8) per game, indicating that he failed to really demonstrate his talents even when he was given a chance in the starting XI.

There was interest in him late last summer, but Michael Beale opted to keep him heading into the first half of the season. If a decent offer comes in, however, Clement will surely take it and run, allowing him to add someone of Daniliuc’s quality instead.

Why Daniliuc would be a great Davies replacement

The defender made a total of 27 appearances last term for two teams, but it was his loan spell at Salzburg which has clearly caught the eye of those in Scotland.

While featuring just 12 times for the Red Bull club, Daniliuc managed to register three assists, while he also ranked fifth among his teammates for accurate passes per game (37.4) in the Austrian top flight, along with ranking ninth for tackles (1.5), seventh for interceptions (1.4) and sixth for clearances (1.4) per game, not bad at all considering he only spent a few months at the club.

Not only that, but Daniliuc even managed to rank in the top 6% for tackles per 90 (2.3) when compared to positional peers in similar leagues, also ranking in the top 19% for blocks per 90 (1.57), evidence of how well he performed during his spell in his homeland with Salzburg.

Importantly, he is currently six years younger than Davies, which would fit in well with Clement’s philosophy of moving for highly-rated young talent in the transfer window.

Also crucial is that the 6-foot defender could be key in allowing the Gers to build out play from the back. Not only did he average 0.97 progressive carries per 90 last season, but the defender also averaged 4.48 progressive passes per 90 minutes, demonstrating how effective he was at moving the ball from the heart of the defence into a more promising position.

Rangers Journal founder Kai Watson praised the defender heavily when profiling him amid the links, saying: “A quality defender and who has experience in Serie A. Can play centre back or right back and would be an instant upgrade to the defence.”

Signing players who will be upgrades on his current options will allow Clement to build a side which not only can qualify for the Champions League proper next season, but also return to the top of Scottish football, ending a four-year wait for a league title.

Much will depend on how much money the Belgian has to spend over the coming weeks, but even a loan deal for the defender could be beneficial, allowing him to bolster his squad without splashing millions in the process.

Hopefully, this new transfer strategy pays off prior to the window closing in a few months, as the plethora of young talent heading through the Ibrox doors is exciting, to say the least.

Could a youthful side built by Clement be ready to challenge Celtic throughout 2024/25 for domestic honours? Only time will tell.

£75k-p/w Man Utd ace agrees terms with new club; Ratcliffe wants £40m+ fee

A £75,000-a-week Manchester United player has reportedly agreed personal terms ahead of a move to a Champions League side.

Man Utd exit rumours

It promises to be another eventful summer at Old Trafford, this time with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as co-owner, who has now decided that Erik ten Hag will remain as Red Devils manager.

A number of player exits have already been confirmed ahead of the 2024/25 season, though, with Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial departing when their contracts officially expire at the end of the month.

They may not be the only senior departures, though, with speculation surrounding the futures of Jadon Sancho, Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Sancho spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund but could be moved on once again.

The Brazilian midfielder, who missed the FA Cup final win over Manchester City, has already said his United goodbyes ahead of a likely exit, whereas Inter Milan are thought to be interested in signing Wan-Bissaka, who could sold for just £20m.

Another player who could move on for good is Mason Greenwood, who spent last season out on loan with Getafe. The forward has been linked with a move to Juventus, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League, and a new development has now emerged.

Mason Greenwood transfer update

Fabrizio Romano has recently stated that Greenwood’s Old Trafford career is “over”, with United exploring all options of a permanent exit for the player.

“We keep repeating since February, March that the Mason Greenwood story is over at Manchester United. They want to sell Mason Greenwood and my information is that it could be a loan with obligation to buy, so it could be that kind of formula – a potential loan move with buy obligation not option.

“Let’s see what’s going to happen but there are many possibilities around Mason Greenwood, and Man United will take the time to pick the best proposal. There is interest from Juventus but they have to sell at least one offensive player before they can land the player.”

The transfer expert noted Juventus’ interest, and according to reports in Italy, Greenwood and the Serie A giants have reached an agreement on personal terms.

Ratcliffe and United want a fee of up to €50m (£42m) for Greenwood’s services, with talks between the two clubs underway. The £75,000-a-week forward made 36 appearances for Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists. His time at Old Trafford is all but over barring a dramatic U-turn, so it’ll be interesting to so if United can bring in a fee around their asking price of up to €50m.

Shane Jurgensen to remain New Zealand bowling coach until 2022

New deal to make Jurgensen the longest serving NZ coach with nine years at the helm

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Sep-2020Former Queensland fast bowler Shane Jurgensen has extended his contract by a further two years as New Zealand bowling coach, thereby making him the longest serving coach for the national side. Jurgensen’s new deal is set to keep him in charge until the end of 2022, which would accumulate in a total of nine years with New Zealand, including his previous stint from 2008-10.”It’s a huge honour to continue my coaching journey with New Zealand Cricket,” he said. “I love my job and feel lucky to have been involved with such a special group of players and support staff for the past five years.”We’ve had some amazing experiences as a team and I’m looking forward to working alongside Gary [Stead, the head coach] and Kane [Williamson, the captain] as we prepare for an exciting summer. It’s a privilege to work with such a world class bowling unit and I’m proud of the depth we’ve added to the group which has us well prepared for the variety of challenges ahead.”Jurgensen had also been instrumental in the rise of Bangladesh when he was with them for three years until 2015, having also coached Fiji and advised Scotland earlier. Gary Stead, New Zealand’s head coach, acknowledged the impact that Jurgensen has had on the bowlers and looked forward to “having his energy and passion around the group for another couple of years”.”Shane’s done an outstanding job with the bowlers over the past five years and you only have to look at their performances to see his impact,” Stead said.”He obviously possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience, but I think it’s his planning and work ethic that has helped get the best out of our top players consistently. His influence also extends beyond the Black Caps with his knowledge and leadership helping shape the wider NZC pace-bowling system which is already reaping rewards.”
